The combined choir performed a dress rehearsal on Dec. 3 in M300 in preparation of their season’s last performance.
The rehearsal was conducted by Music Professor Omari Tau ahead of the Vocal Ensembles concert on Dec. 5. The concert featured the combined choir, as well as the gospel choir.
“Combined choir is technically chamber singers and college chorus,” Tau said. “These are students who are slightly more advanced, in that they read music a little bit more and their ear training is stronger.”
The showcase featured five different pieces of music as choir members and singers held the rhythm with them, moving their bodies along to the music.
Eric Charlton, a 19-year-old music and theatre major, said he was excited to perform for an audience as a way of self expression and relief.
“That feeling of being able to sing and let loose to these beautiful songs is something I enjoy,” Charlton said. “We’ve got almost double the songs we did last performance, and we have a lot of collaborative work.”
Faye Crook, a 19-year-old music major, said they were excited for the collaborative work in the main performance.
“I learn a lot from the people around me,” Crook said. “There are many people of many different skill levels, so it’s really important that I get to sing with all of these amazing people.”
Tau and the choirs said they expected to put on an amazing spectacle with a band, including a more polished and refined performance.
“I was giving them notes and talking them through on different things. We will not be doing that on Thursday,” Tau said. “It will be the complete production.”
