Los Rios Police arrested a male student suspected of inappropriately grabbing two females on campus on Monday morning, according to a Los Rios Alert.
The suspect grabbed the first woman at approximately 8:46 a.m. near the Health Center and the second woman after a class at approximately 10:20 a.m., according to the alert.
Public Information Officer Kristie West said there are certainly consequences for a student that committed a crime. She said the suspect is a Cosumnes River College student.
“I have been told that this student will likely be suspended,” West said. “At least for 14 days, but likely longer and that it’s being worked on now. He’s been told to not return to campus for the time being.”
Twenty-one-year-old communications major Israel Ogundairo said he was baffled that someone would actually commit such an act and seem to not be worried about the repercussions.
“It’s crazy because I got a girlfriend and I was worried about that happening to her,” said Ogundairo. “It could happen to anyone.”
Nineteen-year-old early childhood education major Nakeyma Thomas said she was in the classroom where the second battery incident took place. She said three officers came to arrest the suspect.
“We didn’t really know until we got the email a few minutes later,” Thomas said. “I hadn’t had any interaction with him, so I was happy about that.”
Jairi Graynillo, 23, a psychology major, said she thought it was good that notifications were sent out quickly and it is sad students have to look out for people like that.
“I got the email as soon as I was heading to school,” Graynillo said. “It was kind of unfortunate that two people had that happen.”
According to the alert, the suspect was described by the victims as a mixed-race male with a medium-toned complexion, with dark shoulder-length hair in a ponytail. The suspect was wearing a red pullover jacket with pants and athletic shoes.
West said the situation is an ongoing investigation.
LRPD asks anyone who has information about the incident or the suspect to please contact the campus police department at (916) 558-2221 and press zero. Reference LRPD CASE #23-0172.
