The Center for Inclusion and Belonging recently introduced a new prayer and meditation room on campus, located in library room 106E.
Students can use the space Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for up to 15 minutes at a time.
“I’ve found it very, very convenient,” said 18-year-old interior design major Fatima Abboushi.
The former prayer and meditation space was a cubicle in the general walkway of the library, but was moved due to the level of noise and distractions, said Student Life and Leadership Supervisor Kayla Anaya.
“It feels really amazing,” said 17-year-old management information systems major Hafeezuddin Ahmed. “Since we have that room, it’s not a problem for us when the prayer time comes.”
Ahmed said, as Muslims, they are required to pray five times a day, so having a designated space on campus helps.
Ahmed also said there were areas of improvement for the prayer room.
“Personally, I was thinking if the room could be bigger to accommodate more people, other than just a couple people at a time,” Ahmed said.
