Hundreds of students gathered on Wednesday to celebrate Earth Day. Booths and displays ranged from solar car races, proper recycling and living on a plant based diet.

The Sacramento Electric Vehicle Association shows how the chargers work for electric cars. They offered information about rebates available on electric vehicles and how to have your home set up to accommodate a charger.

Jordan Boker, 19, an environmental studies major and Aria Pauling, 20, an animal science major, ran the table talking about responsible recycling. They mentioned that if even one item for recycle is contaminated with food waste all the other recycling along with it go to the landfill and are not recycled.

Damian Sealee, 20, a biology and chemistry major works at the pharmaceutical technology table. They focused on educating students about which drugs can be safely disposed of down the toilet and encouraged people not to hold on to their old prescriptions.

Mary Rodgers, 68, and Petra Wynbrandt, 57, both students in the plant nutrition program explain to a student how to grow an edible garden. All the plants displayed were meant to show items that can easily be grown in a backyard garden in Sacramento.

Jackie Va from the Vegan Outreach program gave students information and recipes for those interested in a vegan diet. They offered free cookies to anyone who wanted to participate in an immersive virtual reality experience that showed the life of a farm animal from birth to slaughter.
