As the holiday season approaches, the city of Sacramento and the surrounding area have several things to do that are all holiday themed, including viewing holiday lights, ice skating and more.
Ice Skating
The Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, located in the Ali Youssefi Square on 7th and K St. has general admission for $15 per person and $8 for kids ages 6 and under.
The price of admission includes the cost of renting ice skates, according to their website.
The rink will be open until Jan. 20 and is open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with times differing on the holidays.
Holiday Lights
The Imaginarium at Cal Expo, which is the largest holiday light show in Northern California, according to its website, has adult weekday tickets that are normally $25, but cost $21 for a limited time. The Imaginarium is located at 1600 Exposition Blvd.
Child and Senior tickets for weekdays normally cost $19 but cost $17 for a limited time. There is also a $3 service fee if you purchase the tickets online and prices for weekend tickets differ from weekday ticket prices.
For an additional cost, you can purchase tickets for ice skating for $15 for a limited time and carnival rides for $25 for weekdays and $35 for weekends. The Imaginarium will close on Jan. 5.
Neighborhood Lights
The Fabulous 40’s located on streets 40 through 49 in East Sacramento are decked out in holiday lights. This activity is a great one if you are in the area of East Sacramento.
You can walk it or drive it, either way, it’s guaranteed to be a fantastic sight.
“Theater of Lights” show
The Theater of Lights, a family-friendly live theater show that tells the story of “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” is located at the Old Sacramento Waterfront.
The production started the day before Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Eve, according to their website.
The best part of the 20-minute performance is the lighting of a 60-foot Christmas tree by St. Nick.
While there is no cost to see the actual performance, parking costs $11.25 at the Tower Garage, which is located at 1289 Front St. and Capitol Mall, as well as the Old Sacramento Garage, located at 274 I St. between 2nd and 3rd St.
The show times are from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Dec. 24, with show times varying on Dec. 23 and Christmas Eve.
