Softball player Amber Wright gained recognition as Cosumnes River College athlete of the week for her hard work in academics and dedication to the team.

Wright has been playing softball since she was six years old and grew up with her family all being just as dedicated to softball and baseball as her, so the recognition is a big accomplishment for her.

“I have been working really hard all season,” said Wright, “so to get recognized for it, I feel like it’s a big accomplishment especially out of how many athletes we have and everybody is working just as hard as I am.”

The sports department at CRC tries to highlight students who shine through and give total commitment to being the best student and athlete that they can be. With baseball, softball, and tennis athletes in the running for being athlete of the week, it makes standing out much more harder.

CRC’s softball team has been really successful this season, winning 30 out of 40 games and making it into the playoffs. The mentality Wright has is all about teamwork and with the team having that many wins under their belt, it’s clear the Hawks softball team earned it.

Wright says that she really likes head coach Kristy Schroeder and believes Schroeder has played a big role in keeping the team in check.

“I love being the team to watch,” said Wright, “and with our record and who we have on our team, I feel like we are going to be the team to watch.”

The first game of the Hawks softball playlist is against Feather River and Wright is looking forward to it and hopefully winning the championship.

“I’m most excited for the environment,” said Wright, “It’s going to have a great environment.”
