CRC volleyball defeats Lassen
The Cosumnes River College women’s volleyball team defeated Lassen Community College in three sets last Friday in an out of conference game.
The Hawks won the first set 25-14 and third set 25-13 decisively with the largest challenge from Lassen coming in the second set.
“Every game is going to be hard fought matches,” Head Coach Kari Nahlen said.
The teams played very hard the second set with the Hawks trailing closely for most of the set and ultimately prevailing 25-23 after gaining the momentum and holding Lassen to 23 points in the set two away from victory.
Both teams saved their two allowed timeouts per set until the end of the second set in a strategy Nahlen described as stuttering to attempt to force errors and break momentum.
Dominant is the only way to describe CRC’s performance by the numbers with CRC player outside hitter freshman Aija Redding (18) scoring 11 kills on 21 attempts for a .286 kill percentage.
Further, middle blocker sophomore Miah Williamson (10) scored six kills on 17 attempts and a kill percentage of .294 and freshmanMaddy Motta (8) scored five kills on 12 attempts for a kill percentage of .250.
All three of these players were mentioned by name by Nahlen for having outstanding kill percentages in this game.
Conversely, Lassen’s starting middle blocker Freshman Anyah Grigsby (2) was held to four kills out of 24 attempts and a -.042 kill percentage for the match.
“Play hard every single point,” Nahlen said. “Every single match we have the chance to do very well.”
CRC hopes to build on their momentum as they return to league play with matches against Diablo Valley College on Sept. 29 and American River College on Oct. 1.
