Women’s soccer team shuts out Butte College
The Cosumnes River College women’s soccer team beat the Butte College Roadrunners 5-0 at home on Tuesday.
The Hawks got off to a great start and scored two points in the first half of the game.
“It was a good win for us. We put together a couple of wins in a row,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Cesar Plasencia. “We won our last game, we won this one.”
The Hawks had good teamwork and long kicks throughout the game.
In the second half of the game, the Hawks continued to show good teamwork by passing the ball to each other. They were able to shut down Butte’s offense to win the game.
Sophomore right forward Nariyah O’Brien said it was satisfying to beat Butte College.
“Last year we had a chance to, but that game didn’t go as planned,” O’Brien said. “We got a few of our starters taken out of the game last season and the game just went downhill from that, so it was good to come back this year.”
Freshman center back Katie Smith said the team got plenty of goals in the game.
“I think that we did what we were supposed to do, feels good, satisfying,” Smith said. “I think that our main strategy is sort of connecting and finding simple passes and playing the ball quickly.”
O’Brien said the team has focused on team culture.
“Getting things right, starting it from practice, communicating, making sure everybody’s high-fiving, just creating that team culture. We believe that that transfers to the game,” O’Brien said.
The Hawks will play against Cabrillo College at home in their next game on Sept. 23 at 4 p.m.
