The Hawks women’s volleyball team fought hard against American River College during Wednesday’s tight game, which ended in a 1-3 loss.
The Beavers took the first two sets, winning 26-24 and 25-22. Vital service aces from Cosumnes River College’s outside hitter Jordyn Kwalwasser helped the team win the third set 25-19 before losing 24-26 in the fourth set.
“I think we played really well against ARC,” said libero Cassidy Pham. “All the sets were so close, like it could’ve gone either way.”
Kwalwasser had a hitting percentage of .273 with 12 kills out of 33 total attacks.
Middle hitter Antonique Coleman put up three blocks in the second set, each followed by enthusiastic roars from the crowd.
Setter Nicole Risch had a total of 36 assists and 12 digs.
Pham said that talking and communicating are one of the most important parts of the game.
“I did feel that I was a little bit in my head,” Risch said. “Definitely just trying to get out of that myself so then that way I can help my team and set them up for success.”
The Hawks finished the game with a total of 45 kills, 41 service aces and 72 digs. Outside hitter Erin Chelini had a total of one solo block and four assisted blocks.
“We were just one serve, one missed pass, one hit away from winning,” Pham said. “We’ll come back next time. Harder and better.”
The Hawks have a 12-5 record this season and are set to face the Diablo Valley College Vikings at home on Wednesday.
