The men’s soccer team beat Clovis Community College 4-0 in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
With a quick start at the beginning, the Hawks gained control of the ball and scored the first goal in the first half at the 42-minute mark by sophomore defender Christian Brenes assisted by sophomore forward Brian Ramirez.
“Sometimes we struggle to focus mentally and sometimes we mess up, but I think if everyone locks in and at practice, everyone locks in the day before, then everything should go to plan, every time,” said freshman midfielder Miguel Garcia.
The next two goals in the second half were scored by penalty kicks with one from Garcia and the other by Ramirez. On a corner kick by Clovis, it was headed by Clovis defender Dominic Ortega, but caught by freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Molinari in the second half.
Last year, when the hawks played Clovis, they lost 5-0. This year, they planned to beat Clovis 6-0, said sophomore defender Patrick Molinari, Nicholas Molinari’s twin brother.
“It was not the result we wanted, but we won and plan to win every game we play,” Patrick Molinari said.
Coming into the second half, a rhythm was found with the players and they got into the game quicker, keeping control of the ball and attacking Clovis’s defenders.
“We‘re still improving, still getting better, still growing as a group and that’s exciting because we are still making progress. We haven’t topped out and that’s it,” said head coach Ron Preble.
The Hawks played again on Friday at 4 p.m. against the Fresno City College Rams, losing 2-0. Their record is now 9-4-3 on the season.
