The softball team took two losses against San Jose City College at home during their doubleheader on Feb. 11, 2-3 and 1-4.
Head Coach Kristy Schroeder said the softball team got off to a strong start in their first game of the doubleheader.
“We did what we were supposed to do,” Schroeder said. “We got a hit, we bunted the person over, we had a good hit the opposite way and then Eden drove in a run.”
In the first game, sophomore pinch hitter Abigail Woodfill hit a fielder’s choice that allowed sophomore catcher Kalani Hernandez to score the team’s first run in the second inning. In the third inning, sophomore left fielder Eden Hobart hit a single that allowed freshman right fielder Annabell Mendonsa to score the Hawks their second run.
Mendonsa said her and her team performed good in the first game.
“I think that the outfield did really good today,” Mendonsa said. “Me and my right fielder did really good today, my left fielder too.”
Schroeder said the second game resulted in a loss due to errors.
“We just couldn’t string anything together today,” Schroeder said. “And then again we let them in with some errors and so that’s not a good combination.”
During the second game, the Hawks weren’t able to score any runs in the bottom of the first through sixth innings.
Freshman first baseman Emily Azemar hit a single that allowed freshman shortstop Charlize Fasula to advance to first base, getting freshman pinch runner Victoria Babby to score a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The softball team later faced two losses in their doubleheader against West Valley College on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The softball team is set to play another doubleheader against Fresno City College on Friday.
Freshman third baseman Isabella Hall said the losses won’t keep the team from progressing.
“I think that we need to put these two games behind us,” Hall said. “And work forward to our next game and just keep pushing.”
