The beach volleyball team defeated the Folsom Lake College Falcons and the American River College Beavers in a doubleheader on Friday.
The Hawks took the first game of the doubleheader against FLC by sweeping in five, with the Falcons forfeiting the final set after being down 4-0.
“It’s awesome having such a dynamic team,” said head coach Kari Nahlen. “We’re really strong from our ones all the way through our eighth.”
The Hawks won a close game against the Beavers by a score of 3-2.
“I was actually a little nervous just because my whole family was here, and it was our last game, so I had my nerves going,” said sophomore split Cassidy Pham. “But having my partner with me, she was just super calm, and we were going through it together. And I think that really left a lot of my nerves once we just started going.”
Pham and her partner, freshman split Kaylie Reyes, beat FLC 21-18 and 21-17 in the first set. Pham and Reyes later defeated ARC in the second game during the first set winning 22-20 and 21-16.
Nahlen said the players work well together and have found ways to execute quick points.
“The girls have really learned how to mesh well with their partners and learned how to get the easy points instead of necessarily the flashy points,” Nahlen said.
The team ended their regular season play with their win on Friday, ending with a 17-7 overall record and 10-4 conference record.
“I think the best thing we did was continue to communicate, even when they were getting on runners,” said freshman split Ella Cline. “Just continue to be positive and build each other up, not letting the mistakes get to us.”
The Hawks will head into the Big 8 Conference Championship on April 25.
“I think after today, this was a big win for us, beating ARC, because that gives us three pairs to go to the playoffs, and that’s even better,” Pham said. “Since it is my last year, I want to go as far as I can.”
